I was having a discussion with my lovely wife the other day. We discussed the appalling protest that took place at Cities Church in St. Paul Minnesota.
One of the protestors spoke on camera and said this demonstration was, “a peaceful protest and I too am a Christian.” I thought… “this was not a protest, and these were not Christians.”
This was a desecration. This was an act of evil against God’s sacred, Holy Church. The Church that Jesus is building. This was not done by Christians.
So, as my wife and I began discerning this desecration event, we kept coming back to… “at what point is calling yourself a Christian simply words from the tongue?”
“I changed my oil and brakes in my car. I too am a certified mechanic. I bandaged up a cut the other day. I too am a surgeon.”
I am in no way trying to make light of that “Christian” protestor statement. But at what point does simply calling yourself a Christian become evil speak of the tongue.
At what point do leaders and Churches step up and speak out against “Christians” who say something is “good” or “right” or “done for justice” or “is cultural moral,” but violates God’s Word. At what point do Christians say this is all merely word salad.
Culture does not define morality. If something seems nice, good, or righteous to the culture, that does not make it Biblically righteous, Holy, or done with Godly Love.
Even more detestable than letting culture define morality is witnessing Christian’s twist Scripture to justify their stance on culturally defined, and approved, morality; it is an abomination.
“Untaught and unstable people twist (God’s Word) to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.” 2 Peter 3:16b
Scripture teaches that God established nations and their boundaries.
“And He made from one man every nation of mankind to inhabit all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation.” Acts 17:26
Scripture is clear that governing authorities are appointed to bear the sword against wrongdoing.
“For it is a minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid; for it does not bear the sword in vain, for it is a minister of God, an avenger who brings wrath on the one who practices evil.” Romans 13:4
Christians are commanded to obey law and order. Christians are commanded to put their Trust in God. Christians are commanded to obey government unless a direct violation of God’s Word and Will is revealed. Christians are commanded to support governing laws used to protect others from harm, criminal activity, and lawlessness. Sin is lawlessness.
Cultural “niceness” and “justice” is not commanded. Abortion is nice and supportive of “cultural women’s rights,” but is in direct opposition to the Will of God. God’s Will is that all be saved. God created everyone in His image.
Those who violate immigration laws are breaking the law of nations. These laws protect citizens. Sin is lawlessness and Christians in no way, shape, or form support lawlessness.
Do mistakes happen? Unfortunately, yes. But we place our Trust in God to work through governing authorities to fix unfortunate mistakes.
True Christians must dig deep, seek Truth from God’s Holy Word, and pray for discernment on the question, “When does saying you’re a “Christian” become not only dangerous to Christians who believe in the absolute, inerrant, infallible Truth of God’s Word, but also lead one down the wide path of false teaching and complete heretical destruction.
Think that is a harsh statement? Much of the New Testament warns of false teachers, false prophets, and antichrists who will seek to pull the Truth out of Christians.
Jesus warns, “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves.” Matthew 7:15
The Apostle John tells us, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into this world.” 1 John 4:1
Supporting lawlessness of any kind is a wide path to destruction for a reason. It endangers True Christians. It endangers those governments put in place to protect and serve others from harm. It leads to the desecration of the Church Jesus is building.
Christians must speak out and stand firm on the Truth of God’s Word…Inaction is action.
Let us pray for all to seek after Jesus and the True Word of Truth found within the pages of God’s Holy Word.
Let us pray for all Christians, all Churches, and all who need Jesus for Salvation…that is EVERYONE!
I would love to speak with anyone seeking a relationship with Jesus. I would love to speak with anyone with questions about Church.
Blessings,
