What comes to mind when you hear the word glory? Glory for a nation, glory for a leader, glory for an athlete. Books and movies have been made about glory. Famous speeches talk about glory. In a world that puts so much emphasis on human achievement, human intellect, human pride and pleasure, do we ever stop to think about Glory for God? How often do we take time out of our day for God’s glory? We spend so much time and effort glorifying human accomplishments, we leave little room for God’s glory.
“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.” (1 Cor. 10:31).
“For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.” (Romans 11:36)
Jesus did everything on Earth for the Glory of the Father. Jesus says in John, “I have glorified you on the Earth by completing the work you gave me to do. Now, Father, glorify me in your presence with that glory I had with you before the world existed.” (John 17:4). Are we not to do the same? Yes, we are to walk as Jesus walked. “The one who says he remains in Him should walk just as He walked.” (1 John 2:6). Christians live in imitation of Christ. Live as Christ lived, walk as He walked. Christ lived for the Glory of God the Father.
The famous theologian Charles Spurgeon said, “We are chosen by God for His Glory.” Do not idolize (admire and love excessively) the passing world, it insults the Glory of God.
