Do we Trust God? Do we? Do we Trust His Word? Or do we trust our own instincts above the Word of God? If it feels wrong, do we assume, or conclude, it is unjust?
Where are our feelings coming from? Our own intuition? Our own view of right and wrong? Societies’ view of justice? Cultural morality and ethics?
Do we look to God’s Word for Truth? Do we seek His infallible and inerrant Word?
What is our view of Scripture? Do we believe it all? Do we Trust it all? Or do we pick Scripture apart to support our own truth, view, intuition, subjective opinion?
Nowhere in Scripture do we read, “Choose what you like in here…pick out all that pleases you.” No, we are commanded to Trust the entirety of Scripture. (I have written several blog posts regarding every Word of Scripture being God-breathed).
What does God Word tell us about this extremely divisive issue…
God is clear that we are to obey governments. God has blessed us with governments to subdue evil and promote good. We should pray for this daily.
“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore, whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.” (Romans 13:1-2). God is clear. God’s Word is precise.
Now, in Acts 5:29, Peter says, “We must obey God rather than men.” That too is clear. If anyone, government included, tells you to do or say anything that violates the Word of God then, of course, we obey God rather than men. Very simple.
There is nothing unbiblical about open or closed borders. Immigration laws or no immigration laws. Immigration laws can be put into place for many reasons. Protection from others is often the main reason.
Breaking any country’s immigration law is sinful. Scripture could not be clearer on this. And, as Christians, we do not support the breaking of laws unless the law is Biblically supported as a direct violation of God’s Word…even if WE deem the law unfair or unjust.
Say I rob a bank because I feel they unfairly harbor money and take money from the poor. Then I use that money to feed my starving family, pay bills, and give to others in need. Does that make it just? Does that make it less sinful? Of course not! It is stealing, sinful, and rebellion against the Word of God.
Now, if someone breaks immigration laws to seek a better life and provide for their family, is the action just? Of course not. The law was broken. Christians do not support those who break laws that are biblically supported. We pray and Trust in God. We act and seek to help all those God places before us in need, but we do not violate any laws to do so.
We are to care for the poor, orphans, and widows, but we do not break laws to do so. That is trusting in ourselves…not God. God would not put us into positions where we must break rules and laws. God always provides a righteous path when we are doing Kingdom work.
Yes, there are reports and media sources that say legal US citizens are being deported. But look no further than the website for Homeland Security.
From their website, “ICE does NOT arrest or deport U.S. citizens. If this occurs it is because someone is obstructing or assaulting law enforcement.” Both of which are illegal and sinful.
Christians should not be pushing claims that may put others in danger.
We pray, and Trust, that God places just people in charge to do good and subdue evil. Do mistakes occur? If so, we pray, and Trust God, that just people are in charge that will make righteous decisions to correct wrongdoings.
Christians are to obey God and Trust Him to take care of Biblically unjust circumstances when believers are taking action righteously. Again, do we Trust God?
And as Christians, are we putting others in danger, in harm’s way, simply because we don’t like something? Because WE think it’s unfair and unjust? Because WE dissected Scripture to fit a narrative?
Trust God in that seeking justice and taking care of the poor, orphans, and widows in the world need only be done Biblically and lawfully. Trust God will provide a path of righteousness to help and heal. Pray for moral, and Biblical, actions and decisions in all matters.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
“Submit yourselves for the sake of the Lord to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by Him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do good. For such is the Will of God…” (1 Peter 2:13-15a)
