JESUS…The Theme of the Bible

We see Jesus in the very first verse of Scripture.  “In the beginning God created the Heavens and the earth.”  The Gospel of John starts with, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”  Later in chapter 1, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.”

Jesus was, is, and always will be God.  Jesus tells the religious leaders in John chapter 5 that the Scriptures bear witness to Him… the Scriptures testify about Jesus.  In Luke’s Gospel, chapter 24, Jesus explains that Scripture, all of Scripture, is about Him and the fulfillment of prophecy.

The historical accuracy of the Bible is amazing. Real life, real events, real people. Jesus emphasizes that all Scripture is about Him… Genesis to Revelation.  Yet picking and choosing parts to accept and parts to ignore, or essentially throw away, has taken on humanistic supremacy.

Is more time spent deciding which parts of Scripture are relevant, or not relevant, for today? Is more time spent creating a narrative or relevance for each and every single person and each verse to fit today’s culture? Should we not instead be seeking to know the Truth of what God is saying through His Word?  I do not recall anywhere in Scripture that allows me to choose my own version that best suits me.  Jesus sure does appear to be the theme of the Bible.  It is almost as if Scripture is actually about Jesus. Should we not then seek to know Jesus through His Word and walk with Christ daily? The Jesus of Scripture.

We must not look to Scripture in terms of, “What do I want Scripture to say?” Instead, “What is God saying through His Word?”  The Bible is living and active in our lives; transforming and shaping us to be more Christlike every single day; one decision at a time.

If all of Scripture speaks of Jesus and points to Jesus…If all of Scripture is divine authority…Then we must look at Scripture in its totality, not in subjective fragments.  Scripture interprets Scripture. Let us seek the meaning of Scripture…using Scripture as our guide.

We love all of God’s Word because we love whom the Scripture points to…Jesus.

When you start your journey with Jesus by accepting the gracious gift of faith in Him…look to all of Scripture, from beginning to end, for the amazing salvation work throughout.  Real people, real events, real life.  What is God telling us through His Word?

I would love to speak with anyone who wants to look further into God’s Word and the transforming power of the Bible.
