We often think of living our lives as to set an example for our kids, or close family and friends. Sure we make mistakes, but we strive to live a life that our kids and those close to us will respect. Living in a fast-paced, demanding culture, being a “light in the world” can often be forgotten. How we live our Christian lives is an example, something that sets us apart, from the darkness in the world. A Christian is a living Bible for the world. Our interaction with the world on a daily basis puts God’s Word on display. “You also are to be holy in all your conduct; for it is written, Be holy, because I am holy” (1 Peter 1:15-16).
Throughout the Gospel of John, Jesus is the light that comes into the world. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). “The one who says he remains in Him should walk just as he walked” (1 John 2:6).
Jesus said to the Apostle Paul, “I am sending you to them to open their eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of satan to God” (Acts 26:17-18). Sometimes it is easy to forget that any and all interactions with the world is a chance to open the eyes of someone in darkness and show them light. Knowledge of God’s Word and loving God’s Word needs to be the priority of every Christian. Knowing God’s Word will allow us to, “Be alert, stand firm in the faith, be courageous, be strong. Do everything in love” (1 Cor. 16:13-14). When we are knowledgeable in God’s Word, we can interact with the world with a firm and strong love. This love brings others to the light and puts the power of God’s Word on display.
