Sufficiency of Scripture

I want to take a look at the importance of Scripture in our daily lives. This fits right in with my last few posts about The Church, and in many ways is just a continuation. When we think of Scripture, what comes to mind? Do we think to look for answers in Scripture? Do we think of Scripture as a problem solver? How often do we take our Bible with us? If a problem or question arises, do we turn to Scripture for answers, help, clarification, hope? If a loved one turns to us for help, do we point them to Scripture? Do we show them God’s Word? Maybe you feel someone who is not a believer is coming to you, so Scripture shouldn’t be used. Why? Are we not be lights in the world? Set apart from the world? Different than the world? “Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which He walked” (1 John 2:6). Would Jesus answer and help others without using the Truth, God’s Word? NO!!

Our use of Scripture is in noticeable decline. Are we ashamed of the Gospel? Do we question or doubt the Divine power of Scripture!? Do problems arise in our life that Scripture can not answer!? Does God put anything before us that is not found in his complete, inerrant, infallible Word!? NO, NO, NO, NO!

The push to use outside, human methods, is rapidly entering the Church. Placing man-centered ideas and solutions into the forefront of our churches is not only dangerous, but heretical. Churches are turning to psychology, or other methods, for help. THIS WILL NOT WORK! You cannot replace biblical wisdom and Divine power with a therapist. Turning people to the all-sufficient Savior and His all-sufficient Word needs to be the focus for all Churches and Christians. “For the Word of God is alive and active” (Heb. 4:12).

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be throughly equipped for every good work” (2 Tim. 3:16-17). We are not to use God’s Word only when convenient or only when it is comfortable. We are to use God’s Word always, in every situation we face. “The instruction of the Lord is perfect, renewing one’s life” (Psalm 19:7). God’s Word is perfect. God’s Word is sufficient to restore even the most broken life. SCRIPTURE IS SUFFICIENT.
