Racial injustice, social injustice, political injustice, economic injustice. You name the category, injustice will follow. Hard to read a paper, turn on the news, walk down the street, or talk to someone without hearing of some sort of “injustice.” These issues now have entered the church. The church has succumbed to more and more worldly social issues, falling victim to looking more like a political and social organization rather than representing the Kingdom of God confronting a fallen world!
Worldly forms of injustice infiltrating the church dilutes and distracts from Christ and the cross. Focus is lost on the things above. How does the promise of forgiveness for sinners hold True if the church allows a victim mentality stemming from other people’s misdeeds? “The Lord executes acts of righteousness and justice for all the oppressed” (Psalm 103:6). Justice and righteousness comes through God and God alone.
“Is there injustice with God? Absolutely not!” (Romans 9:14). “The righteous Lord does no wrong. He applies his justice morning by morning” (Zeph. 3:5). “The works of His hands are truth and justice” (Psalm 111:7). Knowing God is the only path to justice in this fallen world.
Jesus tells us, “If anyone slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also” (Matt. 5:39). Jesus also tells us, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you so that you may be children of your Father in heaven” (Matt. 5:44-45). Christians are the last people who should ever become offended, resentful, or envious! We are to love our enemies and pray for those who mistreat us.
“Let all bitterness, anger and wrath, shouting and slander be removed from you, along with all malice. And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ” (Eph. 4:31-32). A victim mentality leads to anger and bitterness towards others. We are to live as lights in the world. Different from the world. “Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things” (Col. 3:2).
We are to repent of our sins and walk as Christ walked. We live this message and preach this message to all. “God now commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has set a day when he is going to judge the world in righteousness” (Acts 17:30-31). True and perfect justice resides with God alone.
