We watch movies, listen to music, read magazines, analyze charts, turn on our favorite show, scroll through netflix searching for anything interesting, play on our phones and social media apps. We find ourselves memorizing and quoting movie lines, songs, sports stats, and know personal information about actors, athletes, politicians, musicians. If asked today, could you quote more movie lines or Bible verses? Do you know more about your favorite actor or athlete than David or the Apostles?
Often the Bible is thought of as a long, complex, boring story that is meant for Pastors or Theologians only. Let them study it and just fill me in on the important details. Truth is, the Bible will inform you of God’s mind and will for your life. Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of Heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in Heaven” (Matthew 7:21). God bestowed upon us His infallible (unfailing in its purpose) and inerrant (free from error in all it affirms) Word and Truth for ETERNAL SALVATION (will discuss in more detail in future blog).
Salvation is a deliverance from sin, and eternal damnation, through faith in Jesus Christ. “You have known the sacred Scriptures, which are able to give you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:15-17). So powerful! The Bible is God-breathed scripture containing God’s Will for ETERNAL life with our Lord Jesus Christ. NOTHING on netflix or social media can top that!
“I will delight in the decrees; I will not forget your Word” (Psalm 119:16). “I delight in your commands, which I love. I will lift up my hands to your commands, which I love, and will meditate on your decrees” (Psalm 119: 47-48).
